Nans, Naintara, Naira, I just came from the Zoom prayer service, which was really lovely. I want to add my deepest condolences for your loss. As you can tell from the hundreds who attended the service, your loss is shared by all of us who had the good fortune to know Mooli. One of my earliest memories of College was being “ragged” by Mooli when I was a fresher. Wrapped in a towel (he had just come from the shower), he saw me lurking outside Muk West trying to blend into the scenery to avoid being ragged, and beckoned me to his room. With a sinking heart I entered his room, bracing myself for verbal assault or humiliation. Straight-faced, he leaned in close and asked “Fresher, do you think Lin Piao is an NDMC Piao?” (Lin Piao was much in the news then for some reason). I gaped at him, having no idea what he meant by that or what I was expected to say. Over time I would learn that was a typical Mooli phatta. That was the first time I met him, and though it was more than 45 years ago I have never forgotten that encounter. Mooli was one of the gentlest and kindest souls I ever knew. He was one of the good ones. I shall miss him.
